It's been a long time coming.

For the most part Jim has treated the Nexus like any other place the crew has traveled to and observed on their missions. He's taken numerous scans of the area. Collected samples, written up reports. The only difference is that Jim doesn't send a byte of it back to Starfleet. It had been unanimously agreed upon by himself, Spock, and Bones. After the whole Admiral Marcus incident, there was a limit to how much they could trust even the bureaucracy at Starfleet.

He's given Spock all of his private notes to read, after Khan had turned up in the Nexus. It's important that the Vulcan know the area, should anything ever happen and they need to take action.

Plus, Jim really just wants to show his first officer and friend around the place. The station at his door chimes at precisely 1700. Jim gets up to answer it.

Spock is there, hands clasped behind his back, his posture impeccable. Business as usual.

However, this time he comes equipped with new knowledge, he had absorbed and analyzed the information he'd been given to read, and was, for him, fully prepared for what the Nexus had to offer.

And Khan.

Considering how difficult victory had been, considering how much it almost cost them, this was not a welcome development. A piece of Spock had nearly died that day, ripped away when Jim breathed his last. The pain, the rage, the emotions that he should not have let control him, surfacing in a violent roar much like the ancients of Vulcan back when they were barbaric and the peaceful tenants of logic were but a dream.

Taking it all out on Khan was, admittedly, quite satisfying.

So suffice to say that, while prepared, he was...

...apprehensive.

Not that it was in any way visible on his face, or his demeanor. He remained, as calm as ever.

Though inwardly he was awash with turmoil.

"Captain."

Jim. It was a badge of honor, something reserved for a friend. As much as Spock kept things as professional as possible on duty, it was always a pleasant reminder that they had, in fact, become friends. Such a difference from his first poor impressions of James T. Kirk. As time had passed, he'd reviewed those memories with a different point of view, one far more positive.

"That would be a wise choice," Spock said in that dry manner, where it was difficult to tell if he was joking or blankly literal. He peers at the phone.

Magic.

Spock of course, had his own way of reasoning things.

"Fascinating, there are energy fields from different dimensions that our sensors and instruments could possibly have no way of identifying." Not so much superstitious nonsense, but simply another field of science not studied yet. He didn't seem so bothered by magic, since he thought about it this way.

He's very thankful for a less...psychologically upsetting...method of transiting.

Spock doesn't notice the pause, or at least doesn't comment on it. His eyes flick down to where Kirk touches his shoulder, but makes no reaction either way, simply accepting what was necessary.

That was different from the transporters. His curiosity was roused and he immediately wished to study it. But that engaging activity would have to be saved for a later time. He took a step back, the sensation of cold and snow biting at him, as he squinted slightly and observed the view around them.

"Fascinating."

If one spent a lot of time around Spock, they'd be able to tell when he was really impressed. No two 'fascinatings' were quite alike.

He seemed to be mildly judging Kirk's use of the emotional word 'hate.'

"It is tolerable, for now." He didn't like it, but he wasn't going to admit that right now. "Am I to assume this weather pattern is not of a normal variety?"
