Whatever news Jim was expecting, that certainly wasn't it. The captain stops in his tracks, mouth open and staring at her for several long moments. Jim nearly startles himself when he swears under his breath and closes the distance again, putting a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"Adia that's." Are there even words of condolence grand enough to cover what she must be feeling right now? And he seriously was going to bother her over news about Felix? Right now?
"Come back to the ship with me. I might have something that can be of help to you and yours. At the very least, I can offer you a hot meal and a safe comfortable place to sit for a little while."
He knows better than to tell her it will be okay. Some wounds can't be buried away. Some you have to ride out and live with.
