'Bad news' being an obvious understatement, but she's reluctant to share. Isn't Jim going through enough already? She doesn't want to trouble him further. Shifting the weight of her messenger bag, she finally reveals, "We found Earth, but it wasn't good. The thirteenth tribe had a nuclear war of their own two thousand years ago. Nothing survived."
This time, her eyes stay dry, but it's impossible for her to hide the deep sadness in her eyes. It's going to be some time before she can build back up hope for the Fleet and an end to the war.
