"Right, okay, and he's definitely over my pay grade, but there's a difference between a familiar and a--" Danny gestures loosely, because he's not sure what or who Felix plans to conjure here, but really, opening any doorway between worlds and inviting something through is a dicey prospect.
The fact that it's dicey is exactly what Danny likes about it, though. If Jim remembers any of this conversation later, he may wish to draw the lesson from it that Danny is not going to be the one to urge Felix toward restraint.
The compliment makes him beam--hook, line, and sinker, here--and he straightens up his sweater as if he's gearing up for a performance. He leans over and pats Jim's shoulder, bright eyed. "He already admitted he's trying to impress you. Can't do that if you're not in the front row to be impressed."
As Jim departs, Danny looks a little like a puppy that's seen its owner get out the leash for a walk, only to be interrupted by a phone call. He likes the Captain; he does! But he knows Felix better and he's understandably excited to get to confer.
