Jim can't exactly throw stones about that. Of the three of them here no one is particularly Good with authority figures though Jim's had to settle down quite a lot since Becoming one such figure. Whether Palmer comes around on it or not is his business. Jim knows he certainly wouldn't have without a few very specific turning points in his life in the last several years. To say nothing of his husband's propensity for getting around the law.

When the conversation turns salespitch though Jim stifles a chuckle and busies himself with his drink. There's absolutely nothing he can add to this conversation that isn't going to upset one of them so it's best to gracefully bow out. He drains his glass quickly while Felix and Palmer are talking shop.

Plausible deniability means not being here when Felix does his thing.
